Permanent Nipples

Installation view, Rietveld Pavilion, Amsterdam, 2024

Inspired by the experience of me modeled in the Free the Male Nippleproject by Paul Gong and Kuang-Yi Ku in 2021, I created this tribute work as a personal souvenir. It’s a pair of metal brooches cast from my own nipples, each capable of holding a picture in the back. These brooches symbolize preservation, memory, and empathy. They allow the nipples to be free both bodily and socially while maintaining their physical form. Although these are wearable jewelry pieces, I view them as a memory or offering following a ritual, and thus, I chose to keep them in a box.
